Nannette's Gingersnaps


3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves

Beat shortening, sugar, and egg until fluffy- add molasses and beat well.
Sift dry ingredients to together and mix well. Chill.

Form into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. 

Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes.  Slam cookie sheet at the end of baking time.
Makes 4 dozen.
